Sean's Story
On May 16, 2007, during his daily commute to school, 12 year old Sean Glanvill was involved in a single car accident. The truck he was in lost control and struck a tree hitting the side where Sean was seated (buckled in) – causing severe trauma to his head. At Children’s Hospital in St Louis, Sean underwent immediate surgery to remove fractures of his skull and removal of most of the top and right side of the skull to allow for swelling. In addition to massive head trauma, he has fractures behind the sinus and major damage to his right eye. Sean was given only a 1% chance of survival on the day of his accident, but he is battling through to potential recovery despite his traumatic injury.
His accident has brought to light the fact that so little is known about the brain today and funding is needed to further this critical research to help future survivors of TBI like Sean.
Updates (April 13, 2009) Sean is making slow progress and is at home with his family now. For updates on Sean's battle visit www. CarePages.com. (register to create a member name and enter SeanGlanvill (no spaces) for his CarePage.)
Sean Glanvill Traumatic Brain Injury Research Foundation (SGTBIRF) The Sean Glanvill Traumatic Brain Injury Research Fund was establish by Sean's family to promote awareness of TBI and for the advancement of research, funding for equipment & facilities or simply the care and financial assistance to families affected by a TBI situation.

Swim, Bike and Run for TBI Research! Each year more people will sustain a TBI than will develop MS, Spinal Cord Injury, HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer... COMBINED. TBI accounts for an estimated 34% of all injury deaths in the United States. 25% of all TBI deaths occur in children under the age of 15. The most common causes are from a fall and motor vehicle accidents. Each year about 130,000 children under the age of 15 sustain a brain injury due to a bicycle related accident.
